Gimhae Airport is an international airport located near the city of Gimhae in South Korea. The airport was originally called Kimhae International Airport when it opened in 1976. A number of major airlines operate frequent flights from the airport to both domestic and international destinations. Traffic has dramatically increased at the airport, and there are plan for a major infrastructure upgrade to help meet the demand. The project includes the addition of a state of the art passenger terminal and a brand new runway, meaning the airport will three in total. These ambitious plans are expected to be completed by 2026. Currently the airport can accept aircraft up to the size of a Boeing 777 or equivalent, though expansion plans will see the airport able to handle much larger aircraft. There are three VIP airport lounges located within the terminal at Gimhae International Airport. In the main terminal, passengers will find an array of restaurants and shops, including car rental outlets.
